So glad to be back on the road again. After a stormy night, I was greeted by a gorgeous sunrise as I began the morning phase of my walk. Still making lots of detours into the woods but making progress.
Met with old and new friends again today. Danny and Hilda Isley from my family community, Mt. Hermon in Alamance County, drove down to Pittsboro as I walked through town. In addition to their good wishes, they left us with homemade pear preserves and Danny’s (the candy man) famous macadamia nut brittle. Good thing I am burning lots of calories on this walk.
Later in the countryside, I met another new friend Ricky, who had learned about Heart Trek USA from our appearance on “Bob and the Showgram” ON G105. His “God bless you” is certainly appreciated.
Our day ended with a very nice family, Greg and Jennifer Morton and their son Blake who insisted on buying us dinner at their favorite Mexican restaurant in Siler City. Jennifer is a banker at Randolph Bank who has really been helpful with our logistics in central North Carolina. We’ve only met great people so far along the roads and byways.
Today was also a milestone day—officially I have completed over 300 miles (311) or one tenth of the walk. Looking forward to the next 90% and the people we will meet.
