Hi! My name is Colon Terrell, and I am a 64 year-old heart attack survivor from Raleigh, NC and Destin, FL. After my attack in February 2009, doctors found 95-100% blockage in all the arteries to the front of my heart, resulting in open heart five by-pass surgery. Despite being a former marathoner and living a relatively healthy lifestyle, I was the victim of stress and a strong family history of heart disease—the nation’s #1 killer.
To celebrate my survival and to raise awareness and funds to fight heart disease, I plan to walk across America beginning March 2012. This website will chronicle this 3,000 mile trek from the Cape Hatteras (NC) Lighthouse on the Atlantic Coast to the Santa Monica (CA) Pier on the Pacific. The walk is expected to take six months until Labor Day and will take me through ten southern and southwestern states. Events are planned in many of the towns and cities along the path with folks invited to walk a mile or more with me to raise funds for the American Heart Association. I hope that my adventure will encourage heart attack survivors and will inspire others to lead a heart healthy lifestyle.
Please visit this website often to check my progress and view photos and blog posts from along the route. Support Heart Trek USA by your thoughts and prayers of encouragement, by walking some with me if I’m in your area, by starting or building your own personal exercise regimen and by supporting the American Heart Association.
This is amazing. I heard you on the radio this morning and I go to school and work in Asheboro where you will be at on monday. I hope to be able to see you and possible walk with you. 🙂 Praying for you, your wife Brenda, and your other family. Also tell your wife to be be careful driving through Pittsboro the cops are HOT around there. I should know, I got my first and only ticket there.
It was a pleasure to meet you in Rockwall, Texas, and we will be featuring your story in our September edition of Living Fit Dallas to coinside with our Health and Wellness advertising month. Sounnds like it will be perfect timing, as you will be getting into California and your finish that same month. Look forward to following your progress.
